One of the handiest accessories that you can have on the beach at night is a light.  It helps if the light is always with you, so that you can get to it quickly.  It also helps if it’s waterproof.  One of the best things you can get is a scuba diver’s headlamp.  You can get them fairly cheap online, just shop around a little.
